Upcoming trips: Cuba in July, September!

I’ve been getting some inquiries about Cuba trips in the coming months. So I’m scheduling a couple of them! These trips will emphasize Cuban society and culture. Of course, as always, if you have a small group of people you’d like to travel with, you should ask me about doing a custom trip just for you.

I’m heading to Cuba today and will handle pricing when I get back – but the cost will be in the range of $3500 or $4500 per person.

Note that Cuba in summer is a tradeoff. (much like Puerto Rico in summer) It’s hotter than you’d like, with quick rainstorms sometimes… but on the upside, there are fewer tourists around. Personally, I like the off-season.

Details

September 3 to 13.
Beginning and ending in Miami, Florida.

Here are a few highlights of this People-to-People trip:

  • We’ll split our time between Havana and “the provinces” to get a varied taste of Cuba today
  • All the obligatory stops. I mean, we’re not skipping Old Havana, Revolution Square, the Malecón, etc. We’re not ignoring Cuban music, classic cars, food, etc.
  • Encounters with Cuban nationals – from scholars to performance artists to random friends of mine

Like all my trips, this will be a small group – 12 people maximum – to keep things personal.

Includes:

  • Lodging in Miami (1 night), Cuba (9 nights)
  • Flights between Miami and Cuba
  • Full program of activities featuring encounters with Cuban nationals
(at least 6-8 hours of programming per day, in compliance with U.S. regulations)
  • Me as the U.S. trip leader (also in compliance with U.S. regulations)
  • A Cuban expert guide co-leading the trip with me
  • Transportation for group activities
  • Healthy compensation and tips for everyone involved in our program
  • all breakfasts and at least half of all lunches and dinners
  • Cuban health insurance
  • Cuban visa

Not included:

  • Your travel from your home to Miami
  • The food and activities you enjoy on your own time
  • Cuban departure tax of about $30
  • Tips for hotel housekeeping
  • If someone rocks your world, and you want to supplement whatever I’m paying/tipping them, that’s at your discretion.

Just for fun

Here’s one of my favorite musical groups playing a favorite song! The group is the Concierto Sur chamber orchestra of Cienfuegos, and they’re playing La Comparsa by famed Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. I’ve watched this again and again. Can’t get enough of them. See what you think:
