pride flag at Cuba's 2015 march

Upcoming trip: Cuba Pride, May 2019!

Coming up this May, visit Cuba for the annual Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia! That’s the Cuban equivalent of a Pride celebration, complete with a march/conga, gala, and more.

The trip runs from May 4th to the 13th. (If you want to come for a shorter trip, join us for just the Havana leg, May 8 to 13!) A $1,000 deposit secures your spot. To reserve your spot, send us a message. We’ll follow up with you to answer any questions and discuss payment options.

Complete details and the itinerary are below.

To be clear: This trip is open to everyone, ages 18 and up! You don’t have to be LGBT.

Trip highlights:

  • Join Havana’s Pride celebration – including the annual conga and festival, the gala, and other activities TBA
  • Take part in discussions with Cuban activists and academics on key aspects of the island’s evolving society, like the current fight over marriage equality and turning schools into safe spaces
  • Enjoy private performances and other cultural activities focused on Cuban art, music, and dance
  • Visit CENESEX, the National Center for Sexual Education, Cuba’s leading voice for LGBT rights and inclusion
  • Visit the LGBT beach Mi Cayito with some of the activists who fought to make it theirs/ours
  • Pilgrimages to sites featured in Strawberry and Chocolate, the Oscar-nominated film about gay identity in Cuba
  • Optional evening outings to queer spaces
  • All obligatory stops in Havana, such as Old Havana with all its crazy contrasts; Revolution Square; the malecón (wall along the sea); and so on
Eryc helps a CENESEX staff member mount a banner for the Pride march/conga
During a visit to CENESEX, we helped mount a banner for Havana’s 2015 Pride march. The theme that year was “I’m in… for workplaces free of homophobia and transphobia.” On the banner you can see what’s clearly the most queer-positive workplace ever, a factory spewing rainbow pollution from the smokestacks.
